How to Setup Ubuntu 20.04 LTS on System.

To install ubuntu first we need make a bootable usb drive using .iso file.The latest version of ubuntu is released with stable kernel version 5.4.It provide faster boot speed than previous LTS release (18.04).

Requirements.

  • 4 GB RAM.
  • Dual Core Processor (2 GHZ).
  • 20 GB free disk space.
  • Installation bootable Media (USB / DVD).
  • Stable Internet Connection (Optional).

Download & Bootable USB.

Boot up Ubuntu from USB.

  • Turn off the system.
  • Insert bootable USB into system & Turn on system.
  • We have two possible scenarios:System Boots USB drive automatically.We need to manually configure USB booting in the Boot Menu or BIOS/UEFI.
  • If we manually configure the boot order so Press F12 or esc or F9 depand on system.
  • Select Boot System using Bootable Media (USB / DVD / Flash Drive).
  • Once System boots up with Bootable Media then we’ll get the following image.

Try Ubuntu

  • We can Try ubuntu before installation. The iso provide a live mode that only runs in memory.
  • Click on Try Ubuntu.

Install Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Desktop.

  • Click on Install Ubuntu.

  • Select Language.By default,system will select English(US) and English(US).
  • Click on Continue.

Choose Starting Applications

  • Normal Installation –Full Ubuntu Desktop experience, with office software, games, and media players.
  • Minimal Installation – Save disk space, especially if you won’t be using media players or productivity software.

Other option.

  • Download updates while installing Ubuntu – The work of downloading large package files during the installation. Once the installation finishes, the packages will be ready to apply as updates.
  • Install third-party software for graphics and Wi-Fi hardware and additional media formats – Install third-party software & hardware such as graphics cards and wi-fi cards,do not have open-source driver support. If we need support for these, we will need to agree to additional terms of use.
  • Click on Continue.

 Installation type

  • Erase Disk & Install Ubuntu: if we are new to Ubuntu installation and want the installer to create partition automatically. We have advanced features,to encrypt disk and use lvm partitions.
  • Something else: If we want to have own customized partition scheme then choose this option.
  • Click on Continue.

  • We can create multiple custom partitions on 40 GB disk.For example:

/boot = 1 GB (ext4 file system)
/ = 10 GB  (ext4 file system)
/home = 22 GB (ext4 file system)
/var = 6 GB (ext4 file system)
Swap = 2 GB (ext4 file system)

  • Click on New partition table.

  • Provide the required values.

  • Select your location.Click on Continue.

  • Provide Host name,system name & password.
